Our Founder and CEO, Dr. Sharon Fernando has many reputable years of clinical operational expertise in the biopharmaceutical and medical communication industries within the APAC region.  Graduating in the US from one of the top 5% technical colleges of 20,000 universities from around the world with a clinical Psy.D. at 26 years of age, Dr. Fernando returned to Asia to pursue her passion for making a difference in patients’ lives.

She worked for one of the big five Contractual Research Organizations in the world and was considered the pioneer member of her team to adapt the Medical Surveillance Model for the APAC region by key stakeholders and members of the leadership teams in the US and Europe.  She worked on global clinical trials from clinical trial design, rater training, protocol development and business development activities while providing line management for international colleagues.  Through this work, Dr. Fernando gained a reputation for strong scientific acumen, cross-cultural intelligence, and an ability to foster deep collaborative relationships with pharmaceutical sponsors, global team members, scientific leaders, and key decision-makers.

She went on to work for one of the largest specialist medical communications networks in the world where she provided scientific direction regarding business development and marketing activities.

Through this work, she recognized the need for a specialized, fit for purpose approach to medical communications with multi-industry commercial knowledge, cross-cultural intelligence, digital expertise, and media training tailored to the specific needs of companies interested in expanding their footprint in Asia.

The creation of Ferna Communications came about during the time of a global pandemic, economic upheaval, and uncertainty to foster a new dawn of hope, adaptability, and focus now more than ever on the importance of our patients and their families.
